6 Tips for Keeping Your Sanity as a Busy Mom

Hey y’all!

I am so excited to share with y’all some things I’ve learned about being a wife and a new mom and keeping my sanity through the business of life and motherhood. In sharing all these tips with y’all, I have to say I am not perfect, and I am still learning new things each day. I am just hoping to encourage and help y’all. If no one has told you this today, you are doing a great job!

On top of all our other roles and duties we already have, I can’t imagine a more stressful long term role than motherhood.

Over the past 9 months, I have gone through many changes. I gave birth to my first child. I transitioned from working full time to part time and starting a YouTube channel. While this is a very exciting season and a dream come true, I found myself constantly feeling overwhelmed and stressed, kinda like a chicken with its head cut off.

I knew that is no way to live. You can’t live your best life or thrive when you feel you are stretched too thin. Once I realized too much was too much I learned I need to have better systems in place. So I wanted to share these simple little tips that helped me develop a better system as a busy mama!

Here are my six tips that help me maintain sanity!

1.Make Time with The Lord First

Can I just say give me Jesus and give me coffee?

Starting out my day being with God makes each day so much better. Give God your first. Wake up before your kids, read a devotion and get into the word. If all you have is 15 minutes then make it 15 minutes.

It will make a huge difference in your day.

Write down your needs and request and give them to the Lord. I also love writing things down in a prayer journal so I can go back and see how far God has brought me.

This is one of my favorite scripture passages:

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:14-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

2. Invest in your marriage.

It’s so easy to caught up in your kids and making them a priority, but having your children recognize a healthy loving marriage is one of the greatest gifts you can give them as well as yourself.

Make your spouse a priority and communicate. Go on frequent date nights or watch your favorite TV shows together– whatever you have time for to invest in your spouse and your marriage.

3. Use your time wisely.

Us, moms, are busy- we only have 24 hours to get everything that needs to get done done! What helps me to get the most accomplished in my day is to plan plan plan.

I try and plan out a weekly cooking and cleaning schedule along with errands and my filming schedule for that week. On weeks where I don’t plan, it’s straight chaos. I think it’s so crazy how one small step can make such a big difference.

Benjamin Franklin said it best with “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. “ Its all about balance do what works for you and your family.

4. Roll with the punches.

Life isn’t perfect. It’s all about how we react and handle the situations. That truly can make or break the situation. The baby will have a blow out in their car seat- it’s fine you can clean it.

The kids will probably fight over toys- it’s fine you can teach them a lesson on sharing. At the end of the day, there is a lesson to be learned in everything we go through.

5. Take time for yourself.

You can’t be the best wife or the best mom if you constantly feel like you are stretched too thin. Take some time for yourself, go on a walk, take a nap or a nice bubble bath, go get your nails done, or listen to a podcast. Start with something small, if you don’t have a lot of time.

Taking time for yourself to recharge is so important. Personally, I love listening to podcast, and I love taking Barre classes. But if I don’t have time for that a bubble bath will be just fine!

6. Remind yourself of all the good you’ve done

You can tend to wanna go crazy when all you think of is what you have to do. Instead, think do all the good things you’ve accomplished.

You fed the baby. You got the kids to school on time. You cleaned the kitchen. You brought the dog to the vet. You cooked dinner. No matter how big or small. You did it. You accomplished it.

In closing just remember, you are the very best mom for your kids. You were hand picked by God to be their mom. What an amazing journey motherhood is. Enjoy it.

I totally relate to how hard it can be as a busy mama to keep my sanity, especially when the house is a mess, the baby has a cold, and you need to finish a deadline for work!

I definitely resonated and pulled so many useful nuggets from this post. I loved how the first tip Katelyn shared was about the importance of giving God your devotional time and prioritizing your relationship with Him.

In the next week, I am going to be giving out a FREE 21-day devotional gift for all my mama friends to make your 10-15 minute devotional time in the morning so much smoother!

Some other things I absolutely loved that Katelyn said were about how sometimes you have to roll with the punches and give yourself a little pep talk when needed! I know this post is dedicated just for mamas, but anyone can use this tip in their life! Such powerful advice!

What was your biggest takeaway from this special guest post from Katelyn?
